Grocery Store Finds: November 2018

Grocery Store Finds with Chef Julie Harrington, RD @ChefJulie_RD #dietitian #healthy #grocerystore #groceryshopping #nutrition

With the holiday season rolling in very fast, I try my best to stick to my normal eating patterns in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That doesn’t stop me from finding new items on the shelves to try! Spend a little extra time next time you are at the grocery store. You may find some new items that may become staples in your kitchen.

Maple Vinegar

I stumbled upon this maple vinegar when I was shopping at whole foods. My favorite vinaigrette combination is olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, and maple syrup. I was shopping to restock my white balsamic vinegar stash in the pantry and I came across this maple vinegar. The Maple Guild is known for their premium maple syrup. They have pioneered a new way to make their syrup, by Steam-Crafting™. Instead of using direct heat to boil the maple sap, they steam-heat it, resulting in a velvety, Grade A Golden syrup that reveals all the nuance of real maple flavor. Their maple sap is naturally fermented and aged in California wine barrels creating a craft premium vinegar. I can’t wait to experiment with different dressing and marinade recipes.

If you have been reading my Grocery Store Finds for a while now, you know my love for Siggi’s. Siggi’s is an Icelandic style cream-skyr. True to Icelandic tradition, Siggi’s products do not contain any artificial preservatives, thickeners, sweeteners, flavors or colors, and are made with milk from family farms who do not use growth hormones such as rBGH. Siggi’s dairy is fully committed to making rather delicious yogurt products with simple ingredients and not a lot of sugar, always. Now, they have fun wholesome sides right attached to stir in. You can find them right next to the other Siggi’s varieties in the dairy section of your grocery store.
