Grocery Store Finds: August 2017

I found so many great new Grocery Store Finds this month!

A reader recently e-mailed me about where I go grocery shopping for all of these items each month. I honestly shop at a variety of grocery stores. I live in northern NJ, so I shop at my local grocery store (ShopRite – where I also previously worked as a Supermarket RD), Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Dean’s Natural Market. A Wegmans just opened up near me and I will be surely venturing there soon!
If you are having trouble finding any of these items where you live, try going to the product’s website and search “store locator” to see where the nearest grocery store is carrying that item.
Ready to see what I picked up from the store this month?

Dave’s Killer Bread Bagels:

I’ve told you about Dave’s Killer Bread before here on the blog. Now, Dave’s Killer Bread came out with protein packed bagels! Their bagels range from 11-13 grams of protein per bagel. Made with whole grains and wholesome ingredients, these bagels will keep you full all morning. I tried the cinnamon raisin bagel with a smear of natural peanut butter on top. I have to try the Epic Everything flavor next!

La Colombe Draft Lattes:Grocery Store Finds: La Colombe Draft Latte - via RDelicious Kitchen @RD_Kitchen

I learned about La Colombe from latte lover, Kylie, over at ImmaEatThat. Then when I saw Alissa rave about it too, I picked it up at Whole Foods when I saw it on the shelves. At first, I was confused about this product. How is a latte in a can? These draft lattes have the same full taste and texture of a chilled latte, complete with a frothy layer of silky foam. Draft Latte is made with real ingredients like nutrient-rich and lactose-free milk and cold-pressed espresso. It’s naturally sweet with no sugar added. They just came out with a Pumpkin Spice Draft Latte!! It’s available online right now, but I hope it will be hitting the shelves at the grocery store soon. I have to try it!

Caulipower Crust:

Grocery Store Finds: CauliPower: Cauliflower Pizza Crust - via RDelicious Kitchen @RD_Kitchen
Cauliflower crust pizza just got simpler to enjoy at home. While I do try to cook from scratch whenever I can, convenience sometimes wins. I love cauliflower crust pizza, but it does take extra effort and can be time-consuming for busy weeknights. Caulipower has just made creating a cauliflower crust pizza so much easier. Found in the frozen section, two come in one package. Load up with your favorite veggies toppings. More brands are now creating cauliflower crusts and I am interested in comparing. Be on the lookout for other cauliflower crusts to appear on the grocery store finds posts.

Humm! Hummus:

Calling all hummus lovers! This new hummus flavor find has got me craving veggies for all my afternoon snacks because I want to dunk it into this delicious hummus. Humm! hummus has a caramelized onion flavor that is out of this world. They have plenty of other flavors too, but this one I’ve been hooked on all month. The hummus is silky smooth and packs in a ton of flavor.

Square Organics:
Grocery Store Finds: Square Bars - via RDelicious Kitchen @RD_Kitchen

I’ve become very selective of the certain bars I eat and share on here. There are so many bars out there that are pretty much candy bars in disguise. Square Organics sent me some samples to try a variety of their flavors. I’ve shared my love for the chocolate coated mint flavor before. Each bar packs in 10 grams of protein. If I’m craving a sweet treat in the afternoon, these have been my bar of choice. A chocolate coated treat. Count me in. Want to try these? Square Organics gave RDelicious Kitchen readers a discount code “DELICIOUSKITCHEN” for 20% off your order online (+ free shipping!).

Have you tried any of these items before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Supermarket RD’s Pick: Dave’s Killer Bread

Avocado toast, sandwiches, french toast – what bread should you use? Look for a hearty whole grain like bread like this week’s Supermarket RD’s Pick: Dave’s Killer Bread.

The bread aisle can be very confusing at the grocery store. There are just too many to choose from. Multi-grain, whole grain, 17 seed grain – how do you know what is a healthy choice? First off, choose a whole grain.
Following is the official definition of whole grains, approved and endorsed by the Whole Grains Council in May 2004:*
Whole grains or foods made from them contain all the essential parts and naturally-occurring nutrients of the entire grain seed in their original proportions. If the grain has been processed (e.g., cracked, crushed, rolled, extruded, and/or cooked), the food product should deliver the same rich balance of nutrients that are found in the original grain seed.
This definition means that 100% of the original kernel – all of the bran, germ, and endosperm – must be present to qualify as a whole grain.

I’ve featured a bread company for one of my picks before. Do you remember how to make sure your whole grain bread is truly a whole grain bread? The first word that should be listed is the word “whole”. That is ensuring that the bran, germ, and endosperm are all present.
Look out for the word “enriched” that often creeps in before the word “whole” on the ingredient list. This means that niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, folic acid, and iron are added in because the key nutrients coming from the bran and germ were stripped out in the first place during the refining process. Enriched bread offers benefits over your standard white bread, but going for a less processed option with it’s natural nutritious ingredients is your best bet.

It’s packed with all kinds of whole grains: whole wheat flour, millet, barley, spelt, brown rice, rye, amaranth, kamut, quinoa, buckwheat, sorghum, plus more! Plus packed with seeds like flax seed, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and more! It’s so hearty which will help keep you full.

They also varieties in thin-sliced! Skip those low cal, cardboard tasting breads in the aisles and try Dave’s Killer Bread, thin-sliced. You get the same hearty, wholesome, and filling ingredients, but simply less calories.
